Flush Bolt installation and Commercial Restricted key Rekeying in Downtown Memphis, TN 38103

Today, we responded to a call from a client located in Downtown Memphis, TN, 38103. They reached out with a frustrating issue, asking, “My door has a lock on the side, and it’s stuck closed. We can’t get the door open. Do locksmiths get doors open that are stuck closed?” We promptly assured them, “Yes, we can absolutely help get the door open if it’s stuck shut.

Upon further inspection, we determined the problem was with a worn flush bolt, also known as a shoot bolt, surface bolt, or door hardware bolt. The client had mentioned, “The door won’t stay shut” and “It keeps opening on its own.” These are typical signs of a failing flush bolt or rod mechanism. When these bolts malfunction, doors can become loose at the top or refuse to stay closed, which can compromise security and functionality, and also is a fire hazard.

When we arrived on-site, we could immediately see how worn the flush bolt was. In the video footage (see below), we demonstrate how the door was stuck, with the bolt jammed in place. Using specialized tools, we removed the faulty flush bolt and completed a rod repair to ensure the new bolt system operated smoothly. You can see the final product in the before-and-after video clips. Once repaired, the flush bolt retracted perfectly into the frame, and the door now latches securely, with the bolt shooting down into the floor as it should.

We didn’t stop there! The client also had a commercial office door with a lever handle and a restricted keyway that needed rekeying. They asked, “Can you rekey this lock with a restricted keyway?” This particular lock featured a Schlage SC1246 cylinder keyway, and we were able to use a matching SC1246 blank made by Ilco to rekey the lock. The client was thrilled, especially since many locksmiths aren’t able to handle restricted keyways, then alone able to service them on the same day!

Not only were we able to rekey their lock, but we also matched the key to their front business door, simplifying their access with fewer keys. By the end of the job, the client was grateful for the prompt, professional service that solved both their door bolt issue and keying needs.
