Last week, we received a call from a property manager overseeing a large apartment complex near Shelby Farms Park, a sprawling area that covers Memphis, East Memphis, Cordova, and parts of Bartlett, TN. The property manager had encountered multiple issues with both the commercial locks in their office and the residential locks within various tenant homes. They were using Schlage keyless entry door locks across the board, ranging from the commercial door locks in their office to the keyless deadbolts and smart locks in the residents’ homes.
The first issue we addressed was in the office. The door latch of their Schlage keyless entry lock had failed, preventing the door from unlocking properly. We documented the issue in the video above, where you can see how, despite entering the correct code and pressing the Schlage lever handle, the latch wouldn’t retract into the lock. It was clear there was a disconnect between the keypad and the locking mechanism.
After inspecting the lock, we rekeyed their Schlage commercial lockset using a new Schlage key blank, as they were also looking to rekey the office due to a recent staffing change. Along with this, we tackled additional door hardware issues in the office, including adjusting the commercial door hinges, changing the weather stripping, installing a new door sweep, and a door shoe replacement—all crucial to ensuring their commercial storefront doors closed smoothly and securely.
On the residential side, we were called into several tenants’ homes to address a variety of problems. These ranged from misaligned Schlage door knobs and Schlage deadbolts to malfunctioning Schlage keypad locks. One recurring issue was misalignment, which often affects automatic locks like Schlage smart locks and keyless entry door locks. Without regular maintenance and adjustment, these locks can become unreliable, leading to tenant complaints.

You can see the pictures below that show how the misalignment caused the lock to malfunction over time. After correcting the door alignment, the lock worked perfectly.
By the end of the day, we had addressed and solved every issue—from the office’s Schlage commercial locks to the tenants’ Schlage door hardware problems. The property manager was extremely pleased with the results, and we ensured that every lock and door was fully functional and secure.
