We recently completed a job in Harbor Town, located just north of Downtown Memphis, TN, in the 38103 zip code, right off of Mud Island. The client initially contacted us with the question, “Can you change the key to a door lock?” We promptly responded with, “Yes, we can change the key to a door lock either by rekeying or changing the hardware of the door.”
The client followed up by asking, “Is it cheaper to rekey or replace locks?” To which we explained, “One of the major benefits of rekeying a lock is that it is much cheaper than replacing the entire lock. The cost of rekeying a basic lock ranges from $20-$60. More complex locks might cost a bit more to rekey.” Satisfied with this information, the client mentioned they had multiple nurses entering and exiting their home to care for a parent. They wanted to ensure only the most current nurses had access while keeping the bedroom on a separate key for additional privacy.
We began by pulling out the door knobs and deadbolts from the front, side, and back doors to rekey them in our truck. During the process, the client approached us again, asking, “Can a locksmith add a deadbolt to a door that doesn’t have one?” We assured them, “Yes, a locksmith can do a fresh deadbolt installation on a door that doesn’t have a current hole for one. We can drill and do all the work ourselves, supply the locks, and make a key to the lock.”
They also inquired, “How much does it cost to have someone install a deadbolt?” Our response was, “The typical price for deadbolt installation ranges between $40 and $200, not including the cost of the lock and installation equipment, but it depends on several factors. We’d be happy to provide a free quote.” After examining the door, we provided a reasonable quote, and the client was pleased with our pricing. They immediately agreed to have a fresh deadbolt installation done on a closet door to secure their parent’s personal belongings.
With everything set, we carefully drilled the new deadbolt hole, aligned the door, and installed the new deadbolt with precision. After rekeying all of their existing door locks, the client was relieved that the security of their home was in good hands.
This project demonstrated the value of rekeying locks as a cost-effective solution, and how adding a fresh deadbolt installation can provide extra privacy and security. The client was thrilled with the outcome and felt reassured about the safety of their home.
