Holidays are meant for celebration, but for one client in the 38106 zip code of Memphis, TN Thanksgiving Day brought unexpected stress. Following a domestic dispute, they urgently needed a Residential Locksmith in Memphis. With a list of complex issues, including an automatic gate that wouldn’t latch and outdated locks throughout their property, they needed reliable and swift help. That’s when GI Locksmith stepped in with our Emergency Locksmith service, even on a holiday.
When we arrived, the client explained their pressing concerns. The property included a main house, a guest house, and an automatic gate, all requiring immediate attention. With elderly parents in residence and nine separate keys for various locks, safety and convenience were top priorities. They asked if we could change locks on the house, but we recommended rekeying as the cheapest way to change locks on house doors without compromising security.
We began with the automatic gate. Its gate latch wasn’t functioning correctly, so we adjusted the gate hardware, rekeyed the backup keyed lock for emergencies, and ensured the automatic system operated smoothly.
The main house’s front door lock set featured a storm door with a Dexter Lock Deadbolt, using a Kwikset keyway. We rekeyed it to the client’s new key.
Inside, we found an antique Corbin Russwin mortise lock on a wood door. These locks for old doors required delicate handling. We rekeyed the mortise lock and ensured the intricate antique door latch mechanism worked flawlessly with the client’s new Kwikset key.
The backyard door featured Schlage hardware—a Schlage latch, deadbolt, and door knob. We rekeyed these to a fresh SC1 key blank and adjusted the interior door hardware for smooth operation.
The exterior security doors were equipped with Marks mortise locks and double-sided deadbolts, all keyed to Kwikset. After rekeying and adjusting the locks, we realigned the doors to eliminate latching issues.
At the guest house, also known as the mother-in-law suite, the exterior door—a wrought iron door—had Marks mortise locks with double-sided deadbolts, which we rekeyed to match the Kwikset keyway.
An interior door had a Schlage deadbolt and front handleset, which we rekeyed to SC1. Meanwhile, the side door featured a wrought iron door with a Kwikset door knob and double-sided deadbolt. This door had dragging and latching issues, so we used door alignment tools to restore its functionality.
By the end of the job, we had reduced the client’s keyring from nine keys to just two: one for all the Schlage locks and another for the Kwikset locks. This consolidation improved safety and made life far more convenient.
The client was ecstatic, praising our professionalism and how we handled every detail, from antique locks to modern Kwikset deadbolts. They were relieved to find an Affordable locksmith near me who could address such a complex mix of issues with skill and efficiency.
