Today, we had the unique opportunity to assist a customer in the 38105 zip code of Midtown Memphis who was locked out of her basement. What made this job particularly special was the lock—it was an old skeleton key lock, a rare find in today’s world but still present in some of Memphis’s historic homes. These locks are full of character, but they can be challenging when the original key is missing or damaged.

Using our specialized tools, including custom-made lock picks designed specifically for these older, intricate locks, we carefully picked the lock open. The techniques we used aren’t commonly taught in modern locksmithing, passed down through generations and honed through years of experience with vintage locks. After gaining access, we didn’t just stop there—we also serviced and restored the lock to ensure it not only worked smoothly but also looked and felt better. The lock now operates with a new key we crafted specifically for its old keyway, preserving its historic charm while ensuring it’s functional for everyday use.
