Recently, we had the opportunity to assist a business client in Memphis, TN 38126 in the Midtown area who was dealing with a frustrating door issue. Their commercial double doors were stuck in the locked position, and both the inside and outside mechanisms were unusable. The door had sagged so much that the weight was putting pressure on the lock’s latch, making it impossible to turn the thumb turn from the inside. Additionally, the key wouldn’t work from the outside due to the severe misalignment caused by the sagging.
To fix the problem, we installed a continuous hinge to replace the old pivot hinges, which were no longer supporting the door properly. The continuous hinge provided full support along the length of the door, eliminating the sagging issue entirely. After stabilizing the door, we adjusted the strike plate and latch to ensure everything lined up perfectly. This solution not only fixed the alignment issues but also made operating the lock smooth and easy again.
