Today, we completed a project in Midtown Memphis, TN 38104, where a client managing a property is building a gym. They reached out to us needing an exit device installed on a metal door to comply with fire safety codes and ensure secured access control. To meet these standards, we suggested installing a Push Pull Paddle Exit Device, which allows residents to exit quickly in case of emergencies while securing the door upon closure.
Fire code compliance is crucial for commercial properties, especially gyms where a large number of people might be present. Most local codes require exit devices, such as push paddle bars or push panic hardware, to provide fast and easy egress during an emergency. For this installation, the client also requested an Adams Rite deadlatch to lock the door securely behind exiting residents while still allowing keyed entry for staff.
The task was more than just installing the push paddle exit device; it involved a complete fresh installation on a stile metal door. Our team used various tools, including a bore jig for cutting into the metal door and a router drill to shape the jamb and latch side for the new Adams Rite lock body. We measured, drilled, and tapped new screw holes to fit the latch perfectly, ensuring both functionality and durability.
We started by marking the door for the exact placement of the push paddle bar. Using the bore jig, we drilled precise holes into the metal door to accommodate the new exit device. The next step was shaping the door jamb to fit the lock body, which required careful routing. Once the Adams Rite deadlatch was in place, we completed the final adjustments to ensure a smooth exit for gym-goers while securing the area after they leave.
The installation wasn’t just about meeting code requirements; it was about enhancing security and convenience for the property. The client now has a door that complies with local fire safety codes and provides a hassle-free exit for gym users. Also, we have to adjust the door closing speed on the door closer for proper working order on newly installed panic hardware.
